08/27/2022 China (International Christian Concern) – A member of the Chengdu-based Early Rain Covenant Church (ERCC) was released on Friday after being detained for 12 days.

The police took brother Xing Hongwei away during the August 14 raid of ERCC at a tea shop. He was accused of assaulting police after he refused to provide his identification. Criminal detention soon followed.

ERCC sent out a prayer request update on Xing on August 26. The heavily targeted church shares that brother Xing was released on bail pending trial. Members of ERCC accompanied his wife, Zhao Qing, to the Jinhuaqiao Police Station at night and had a celebratory dinner together.

During the 12 days of detention, although Xing suffered physically, especially with his post-meningitis recovery, his faith in God became firmer. He also jokingly said that he successfully went on a diet, which he could not have achieved if “outside.”

He is grateful for everyone’s concern, including his church and friends; he also expresses his gratitude to his lawyers for defending him so that he could be released in such a short time.
