08/30/2021 Armenia (International Christian Concern) –  According to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, 3,773 Armenians died in the 2020 44-day war, and 243 more are missing in action. Pashinyan presented the numbers to parliament while outlining the administration’s 5-year plan. As part of his speech, the PM also mentioned those Armenians who are still missing, held in captivity in Azerbaijan, and the thousands who remain displaced by the conflict. The numbers provided by Pashinyan appear to be conservative, with some estimates placing the death toll over 5,000.

Months after the November 9 ceasefire, brokered by Russia, tensions remain high after several border clashes and disputes over territory lines. As colder months loom closer, those who have been displaced and live in less than ideal conditions will face a new set of challenges. The mental and emotional burdens of the war still linger for those survivors as they mourn their lost servicemen and their Armenian Christian heritage that is being dismantled.
