05/05/2021 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – The presidency of Nigeria released a statement via twitter yesterday aiming to sympathize with parents whose sons were kidnapped while attending school on April 20th.

The statement reads: “We deeply share the anguish of the parents of the abducted Greenfield University students. The Federal Government through the military & intelligence agencies is working to support the Kaduna State Govt to bring this tragic saga to an end with no further loss of innocent life.”

“We will ensure that good triumphs over evil, & that all of the bandits & criminals terrorizing innocent lives & communities are brought to book. This is a time for all Nigerians to unite, regardless of religion, ethnicity or partisan affiliation—against a common, dastardly enemy.”

Public response to the announcement is largely negative, showcasing citizens growing frustrations over lack of government security.

“How can we stay united if your measures are to keep us apart and torn?!”Asked one citizen under the domain Decentman, in one of the tweets milder responses.

“I detest your tardiness, but now is hardly the time. Bring them home safely.” Said another, going by the name opagboola.

22 students were kidnapped from Greenfield University in Kaduna state last month. Since then, five have been murdered and one has been freed under unknown circumstances. Terrorists vow to kill the remaining 16 if ransom is not paid.

2021 has already seen several large-scale kidnappings which were originally thought to have been carried out by loosely organized bandits. Recently, Kaduna state governor El Rufai informed the public that these ransoms were used to fund the terrorist group Boko Haram and has banned anyone, including parents, from paying for their child’s release.

Please pray for the Lord to comfort grieving families and strengthen their faith during this difficult time. Please also pray for the safe return of all who have been kidnapped, and for their captors, that their hearts would be softened, and that they will experience the love of Christ that leads to true repentance and salvation.
