04/06/2021 Iraq (International Christian Concern) –  In Nineveh Governorate, thirty-eight percent of the population lives below the poverty line. Many of Iraq’s remaining Christians reside in Nineveh, where they face continued persecution, attacks and economic hardship. Comparatively, the national average is closer to twenty-three percent.

Nearly 2 million people in the province live on less than $72 USD per month, according to a recent report, underscoring the region’s economic despair. Nineveh was an area hit hard by ISIS, with a significant portion of cities still crumbling and infrastructure lacking. The current state of the province makes it unlikely for Christians to return home and they remain displaced, even years later.
