11/22/2020 Pakistan (International Christian Concern) – Minority activists in Pakistan’s Sindh province have called for more equal access to local government representation for marginalized communities. According to the Union of Catholic Asian News (UCAN), the demand came during a consultation meeting convened by the National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP).

“There is a need to call upon the current government and relevant authorities to start working on a local government system which has true representation of minorities through a direct vote,” Kashif Aslam, a NCJP Coordinator, said during the consultation. Aslam was joined by other activists seeking greater representation for religious minorities in Pakistan’s governing authorities.

Other Christian activists went on to encourage minority youths to get involved with political parties. Their hope is that their participation will help their communities gain better representation in Pakistan’s government.

Pakistan is ranked among the world’s worst persecutors of Christians. Pakistan has been designated a “Country of Particular Concern” by the U.S. Commission for International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) due to the abuses faced by the country’s religious minorities.
