01/08/2019 Iran (International Christian Concern) – Ramiel Bet-Tamraz, the son of an Assyrian-Iranian pastor, was summoned to prison yesterday to serve a four-month sentence for crimes against national security.  He submitted himself to Evin Prison. He had already spent one month in prison, which is credited towards his sentence. As a result, he should be released from prison sometime in March.

The charges which placed Ramiel in prison are for no other reason than that he is a Christian. His father and mother are under significant pressure from the Iranian government, who has a history of targeting their children in an attempt to intimidate the parents from practicing their faith. As an Islamic government, Iran views Christianity as a national security threat. However, the practice of Christianity is supposed to be constitutionally protected for Assyrian Christians. The persecution of the Bet-Tamraz family shows just how much Iran’s government has disregard for their own laws.
