07/01/2019 China (International Christian Concern) A major unregistered church was banned in Xuzhou, according to China Aid. Jiangsu authorities had harassed Dao En Presbyterian church for a while before officially banning the underground church.

This follows the removal of over 100 crosses from registered and unregistered churches alike. Authorities use the excuse that the crosses are too high as a means of forcing the church to remove the cross. Some churches, including Dao En, are also have been closed in this process of “cleaning up gang crime and eliminating evil”.

Christianity is a barrier to the Chinese Communist Parties rule, so they view it with hostility. The removal of crosses, and the shutting of churches is a common occurrence.  The communist regime does not like anything they cannot directly control, and feel threatened by the Christian communities view that God is their all-powerful leader.
