Pakistani Christians Protest Against Discriminatory Job Advertisement
ICC Note: Christians in Pakistan have taken to social media to express their disgust over a job advertisement put out by the Pakistan Rangers in August. According to that advertisement, the Rangers will consider only ‘non-Muslims’ for posts as sanitation workers. This advertisement plays heavily on a discriminatory attitude in Pakistan that sees Christians as filthy and only fit for menial and dirty work.
09/04/2018 Pakistan (Times Now) – An advertisement published in a leading Pakistani newspaper created a furore across social media among the minority communities in Pakistan as well as India after it invited only ‘non-Muslims’ for jobs as sanitation workers.
The advertisement that came out in the Dawn newspaper on August 26 was put out by Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) for a series of job openings in their force. However, among the listed openings, the one for sanitation workers had a special mention of ‘non-Muslims only’.
Images of the newspaper advertisement went viral on social media and people, both from India as well and Pakistan, went livid at the discriminatory approach taken by the Pakistan government.
