Christian Leaders in China Slam Government Intervention

ICC Note: Several Christian leaders in China have gone public with the abuses they have experienced as a result of government crackdowns on religious institutions. Christians in China are under strict surveillance and cannot conduct their services freely.

9/04/2018 China (NHK) – More than 100 Christian leaders in China have released a statement criticizing the Chinese government for its crackdown on religious institutions.

116 leaders of unauthorized, so-called underground churches posted the statement online on Saturday.

They say in their statement that the authorities have been removing crosses from churches and forcing them to raise the national flag since February. They add that such conduct hasn’t been seen since the Cultural Revolution.
