ICC Note: The Lahore High Court has ordered Pakistani authorities to clear a Christian graveyard that had been illegally seized by an influential businessman. Due to widespread discrimination and persecution, Christians, their properties, and places of worship are often seen as vulnerable and are targeted by criminals. This order by the Lahore High Court is seen as a big win for Christians in Lahore.

07/28/2018 Pakistan (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday directed authorities concerned to vacate a graveyard of the Christian community from land grabbers.

Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi heard a petition filed by the Christian community. The petitioners’ counsel, Advocate Azhar Siddique, argued that a major portion of the land had been seized illegally.

He said that the total area of the graveyard, in Lahore’s Jalo area, was estimated at 11 kanal and 16 marlas. However, Seth Abid, an influential businessman, seized some 6 kanal and 11 marlas which reduced the total area to 5 kanal.
