ICC Note: Although it’s been almost two months since Philippine government declared an end to the Marawi crisis, there are still missing persons estimated to be anywhere from 500 to 3,000. Many families in nearby Iligan, a predominantly Christian city, have lost contacts with their loved ones and are still waiting for good news. Government provides free DNA tests for families who want to claim unidentified bodies, yet many are reluctant to seek out government’s help in fear of being wrongly identified as relatives of Islamic extremists.
