ICC Note:

Christians in Pakistan were able to peacefully celebrate Palm Sunday yesterday with processions and special prayer services amid tight security. Unfortunately, this has not always been the case. In 2015, two churches were bombed by the Pakistani Taliban in the weeks leading up to Easter causing many Christians to feel insecure during Holy Week. In 2016, the Pakistani Taliban struck Christians again by bombing a popular park in Lahore on Easter where Christians were celebrating the holiday. Pray that this year’s Easter celebrations continue to be held in peace.

04/10/2017 Pakistan (Daily Times) – Churches across the provincial capital celebrated Palm Sunday with processions and special prayer ceremonies amid tight security on Sunday.

Loads of Christian families thronged churches and participated in prayer ceremonies where they also sang hymns.

Special prayers were also offered for prosperity and sovereignty of the country, while message of unity, love and peace basked in addresses of priests. Foolproof security measures were ensured by the city police to avoid any untoward incident.

Prayer ceremonies were held at St Joseph Church Shahdman under the supervision of senior Pastor Ilyas Samuel, while Archbishop Sebastian Francis addressed a large number of participants of a prayer ceremony at Sacred Heart Cathedral Church.
