ICC Note:

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will establish a special directorate to surveil social media and monitor blasphemous content. If the PTA finds a post that they consider blasphemous, then they can seek legal action against whoever posted the content. This is a dangerous and concerning trend for Christians, other religious minorities, and anyone who dares speak against the government. Blasphemy continues to be loosely interpreted and used in petty personal cases. It is difficult to disprove blasphemy once someone has been accused of it.

04/03/2017 Pakistan (Pakistan Today) – Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to form a cyber-security directorate for the surveillance of blasphemous content.

IT, legal experts Director General (DG) Technical, DG Regulation and 10 other officials will be included in the cyber security directorate. Major duties of the directorate will include keeping a check on the content published on various social media websites.
