Group to Hold Interfaith Talks in Myanmar

A city in Myanmar will hold interfaith peace talks to discuss how to encourage “peaceful coexistence” for all Myanmar’s citizens. This comes at a time vital time while Myanmar’s military is carrying out offensives against Rohingya Muslims and Kachin Christian groups and cutting off aid. The attacks have displaced hundreds of thousands and are considered by many to amount to war crimes. The attacks are also viewed by many as an attempt to drive non-Buddhist ethnic groups out of the country completely.

3/16/2017 Myanmar (Myanmar Times) – The event titled “Meeting of Friendly Interfaith Brothers and Sisters who Coexist Forever in Myanmar” will be held at the City Hall in Mandalay.

Mandalay Region National League for Democracy (NLD) chairman U Tin Tun Oo said Union-level authorities would be invited to the meeting to discuss how to promote a peaceful coexistence for all Myanmar citizens.

He said the meeting was important for Myanmar that was moving towards a developed federal nation status.

“Mandalay has been the cultural capital for peoples of different religions. We have had a history of peaceful coexistence all this while, and this peace will continue in the future.
