70 Year-Old Nun Beaten in the Philippines

A 70 year-old Irish nun was attacked in the Philippines by an unknown assailant and beaten so bad she required surgery. Sister Kathleen Melia was closing the church on March 1st when a masked man approached her, covered her mouth, and began punching her. She has worked more than 30 years in the Philippines. Sister Melia lives in a particularly volatile area where many separatist and Muslim extremist groups hide on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines.
3/9/2017 Philippines (UCA News) – An Irish missionary nun has been injured in an attack on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines.
Columban Sister Kathleen Melia was closing up her convent at the San Jose Parish Church in Midsalip on March 1 when a man wearing a mask, covered her mouth and punched her in the face and chest, the Independent Catholic News website reported.
She sustained multiple injuries, which required surgery in hospital.
