Police in Pakistan have finally accepted at a 12-year-old Christian girl was murdered three weeks after declaring she had committed suicide. The Christian girl’s family had maintained that there was evidence showing their daughter was murdered that was being ignored by the police. Christian women and girls are often seen as easy targeted because of the low status allotted to them because of their gender and religious identity. Will the police now be able to bring justice to the family of this Christian girl?
02/08/2017 Pakistan (Premier) – Police in Pakistan have accepted that a twelve year old Christian girl was murdered more than three weeks after declaring she had committed suicide.
Tania Mariyam’s family had consistently said the girl was drugged, raped and murdered but police had refused to investigate.
Despite evidence of her clothes being ripped and signs of drugging, officers maintained she had killed herself.
She was found in a canal hours after being dropped off at the Convent of Jesus and Mary school in Sialkot, Punjab, by her brother.
The family has been battling ever since to raise the profile of her case and force police to investigate.
The British Pakistani Christian Association, which has been supporting the family, fears the delay in reclassifying the case could have let the killer escape.
