Nigerian Soldiers Still Missing After Boko Haram Attack
ICC Note: Boko Haram fighters continue to threaten the peace of Nigerians and the neighboring countries. On Sunday, the Islamic terrorist group attacked a military base in Nigeria were at least 83 soldiers went missing and some got injured or died during the incident. Boko Haram has been responsible for the several attacks against Christian communities in recent years. On April 2014, they kidnapped over 276 schoolgirls from the Christian town of Chibok. Some of the girls have been able to escape and at least 21 were released a few weeks ago due to negotiations between the terrorist group and the Nigerian government.
10/24/2016, Nigeria (CBS News) – Some 83 Nigerian soldiers are missing in action sinceBoko Haram Islamic extremists attacked a remote military base in the northeast, senior army officers said Sunday.
The soldiers were unable to fight back and fled because Boko Haram had superior fire power, the officers told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to give information to reporters.
Morale also was low among the troops because they were being rationed to one meal a day and their allowances were being pilfered by their commanders, the officers said.
