ICC Note

Fulani Herdsmen attack on Christians has increased in its severity over the months. Just in August,  several Fulani militants armed with machetes slaughtered a Catholic Seminarian, a pregnant woman.  This most recent attack validates out cry from Christians in Kaduna that the Nigerian local and federal governments have left them at the mercy of  Muslim  Fulani herdsmen.  The Fulani have taken a Jihadist narrative to justify killings of farmers who are predominantly Christians

10/19/2017 Nigeria (News24) – Kaduna – A farmers organisation in northwest Nigeria says 40 people were killed. in attacks believed to have been carried out by Fulani herdsmen over the weekend.

Solomon Musa, president of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union, said on Monday that some of the victims had been burned beyond recognition in attacks on Saturday and Sunday in Godogodo town, located in Kaduna state.

Clashes between local farmers and herdsmen are common in Nigeria, especially in the country’s Middle Belt.

Barnabas Bala, Kaduna’s deputy governor, called the violence “unjustifiable” and said authorities were looking to restore calm in the area, where a 24-hour curfew has been imposed.
