ICC note: Al-Shabaab militants attacked the Kenya Defence Forces in Somalia when they were returning from capturing a suspected member from the terrorist group. No soldiers were injured or killed during the attack, but Al-Shabaab continues to be a threat to many in the community, especially for Christians.  The terrorist group has carried out several attacks in the past targeting Christians and persecuting them simply because of their faith.

9/16/2016, Somalia (Zipo) – Reports reaching us indicate that a group of heavily armed al Shabaab militants attacked Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) convoy at Sarira north of Ras Kamboni, Somalia.

The militants who were armed to the teeth with AK 47 assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers, engaged the Somalia-based Kenyan forces in a heated gunfight that lasted almost one hour.

The Kenyan soldiers retaliated, managing to kill eight of the attackers as they secured the captured al Shabaab suspect.
