Multinational Force Captures Key Borno Border Town from Boko Haram
ICC Note: The Multi-national Joint Task Force (MNJTF), a military force comprised of regional armies from Nigeria and the surrounding countries, has just succeeded in capturing Damasak, a town in Borno. Damasak is a border town between Nigeria and the Niger Republic and it is located in one the primary regions that Boko Haram has occupied for the last seven years. The military is claiming that with this success, they have captured one of the last remaining frontiers of the terrorist group. This capture is part of the recent increase on the part of the military to wipe out Boko Haram’s presence in Nigeria. Boko Haram has been active for the past seven years, killing, raping, and abducting hundreds of Nigerians, targeting Christians in particular.
07/31/2016, Borno, Nigeria (Premium Times) – The MultiNational Joint Taskforce (MNJTF), on Thursday captured and occupied Damasak, a town in the North-East state of Borno, authorities said.
Damasak is a boundary town between Nigeria and Niger Republic and is located in Northern Borno. It is one of the last frontiers of the Boko Haram terrorists.
The Chief Military Public Information Officer and spokesperson of MNJTF, Muhammad Dole, in a brief statement to PRNigeria, said the troops also cleared the terrorists from the surrounding villages.
