ICC Note: Terrorist group Al-Shabaab has just confirmed that the man responsible for the deadly attack on Garissa University that took place in 2015 has been killed. This man, Mohamed Mohamud Ali, or Dulyadin, was proclaimed dead by Somali officials on June 1, but his death was confirmed Saturday, June 18, when Al-Shabaab released an obituary for him. According to Somali officials, Dulyadin was killed in a Somali special forces raid on the Kenyan town of Kismayo. The attack on Garissa University that this man organized was the second deadliest attack Kenya has ever faced, 148 students being brutally murdered during an early morning raid on the university. This attack in 2015 was meant to target Christians since Al-Shabaab is a radical-Islamic terrorist group; during the attack, the terrorists separated the Muslims from the Christians, then proceeded to execute the Christians. Somali’s special forces were able to target and kill Dulyadin in early June with the help of logistical support from the United States.

06/20/2016, Kismayo, Kenya (AllAfrica) – Somalia’s armed group al-Shabaab has confirmed the death of a commander suspected of organising the 2015 attack on Kenya’s Garissa University that left 148 people dead.

The killing of Mohamed Mohamud Ali, also known as Dulyadin, was announced by Somali officials on June 1, and al-Shabaab confirmed his death with the release of an obituary on Saturday.

“We console ourselves and our nation for the martyrdom of the Muslim knight commander Sheik Mohamed Mohamud Ali (Dulyadin). May Allah accept him and lift him to paradise,” it said.

Al-Shabaab said the commander, also known by the aliases “Kuno” and “Gamadhere”, was killed by “US Crusaders”.

The intelligence group, SITE, has also reported the death of Mohamud Ali.

Somali officials had said he died in a Somali special forces raid close to the southern port town of Kismayo.

Somalia’s special forces are trained by and receive logistical support from the US.
