ICC Note: Mohamed Kuno, the Al-Shabaab leader responsible for the Garissa University attack, was killed in a U.S. airstrike. In 2015, Kuno led a group of gunmen to storm Garissa University in Kenya and took over 700 students hostage. The gunmen then shot the students who said they were Christian, killing 148 people and injuring 79 more. The families affected by Kuno’s attack still suffer from the loss of their loved ones.

6/6/2016 Somalia (Christian Daily) – An Al-Shabaab leader who was responsible for the Garissa Massacre that killed 148 Christians in Kenya died in a recent U.S. air strike.

The Pentagon confirmed that Al-Shabaab leader Mohamed Dulyadayn, who also went by the names Kuno Gamadere and Mohamed Kuno, was targeted in the said U.S. air strike. In a press conference, Somali security minister Abdirashid Janan confirmed the terrorist’s death, the Daily Caller relays.

Although Janan had already confirmed Kuno’s death, the Pentagon said on Wednesday that they still cannot confirm this information. U.S. officials who spoke under conditions of anonymity said the U.S. lent some advice and support to the African-led military troops in Somalia in the air strike that targeted Kuno, PBS Newshour details.
