ICC Note: The BBC reports radical Fulani herders murdered at least ten people in attacks on farms in the northern Zamfara State, Nigeria in their ongoing rampage across Nigeria. The geographical breadth of assaults is breathtaking, as the last three months have seen communities from the north to the “Middle-Belt” states of  Plateau, Nassarawa, Taraba, and Benue, even into Southeast Nigeria with raids on Enugu State. Christian farming villages represent the primary target for Islamist Fulani militias who set these communities ablaze, murdering civilians with machetes, AK-47s and other heavy weapons in an ongoing crisis that has lasted more than 15 years.

5/4/16 Zamfara State, Nigeria (BBC) – At least 10 people have been killed after suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked two villages in the northern Nigerian state of Zamfara, the BBC Hausa service is reporting.

Residents of Madaɗa and Ruwan Tofa say dozens of attackers stormed the villages early this morning on motorcycles.

Nomadic herders from the Fulani ethnic group and farming communities often clash for control of land and water.

Police have not yet commented on the incident which comes amid a growing anger in the country over the recent upsurge in attacks blamed on cattle raiders.
