Coptic Monk Kidnapped from Sudan Farm

ICC Note: Three men have abducted an Egyptian-born coptic monk Rev. Ghabrial al-Antony on a Khartoum-area farm for unidentified reasons, according to reports. The monk’s brother reported the incident to Sudanese authorities who are reportedly investigating the case. Sudanese intelligence officials are notorious for rounding up Christian leaders for arrest and arbitrary interrogation, but the facts of this case seem to suggest something completely different. The circumstances remain unclear as to whether the abduction represents a persecution event or a financially motivated crime.

4/19/16 Khartoum, Sudan (World Watch Monitor) – The Cairo-based news organization Watani International reports that an Egyptian-born Coptic monk serving in Sudan has been kidnapped.

Rev. Ghabrial al-Antony was working on his brother’s farm in Sudan’s Darfur region, Watani quoted Rev. Boulos Fouad of the Coptic Church in Khartoum as saying.
