Central African Republic: Attack Kills 8 Civilians at Camp for Displaced People
ICC Note: Central African Republic has faced brutal sectarian violence for the past three years stemming from a political conflict where members of Muslim and Christian communities have both targeted each other because of their religion. ICC condemns these atrocities on both sides. In the latest reported attack, Muslim assailants have killed eight people in a displacement camp, according to the New York Times. The religious identity of the victims remains unclear, but this is the kind of assault that resembles the religious violence that has pervaded throughout the conflict.
12/7/15 Central African Republic (NYT) – An attack in the Central African Republic by Muslim fighters killed eight civilians in a camp for displaced people, the United Nations said Friday. The United Nations deputy spokesman, Farhan Haq, said United Nations peacekeepers intervened in Thursday night’s attack, which also left five of the attackers dead and wounded several displaced people, two of the attackers and a peacekeeper.
