Prisoner of Conscience, Behnam Irani, Transferred to Unknown Location

ICC Note: Recently, a pastor detained for his religious beliefs, was moved to an undisclosed location to serve his sentence out. An inside report says that Pastor Behnam Irani was arrested in 2011 and has since suffered brutal beatings and terrible living arrangements. What was supposed to be a one year sentence has turned into six.

6/13/14 Iran (Mohabat News) – Prison guards at the Karaj Central Prison moved Behnam Irani out of the prison’s general ward and to an unknown location. Mr. Irani is a considered a religious dissident and is currently serving his sentence in the prison.

According to Mohabat News, prison guards moved Behnam Irani out of the general ward of the Karaj Central Prison to an unknown location.

Reports about his transfer indicate that he was called out of the general ward at 9:00 AM. of Sunday, June 08, 2014, and transferred him to an undisclosed location.

Some reports indicate that “interrogators of the Ministry of Intelligence” have made this transfer.

A knowledgeable source reports, “Prison guards went to Behnam Irani’s cell at 6:30 AM on Sunday and asked him to report to Mr. Mohammad-Yari for interrogation at Branch 6 of the Revolutionary Court. Mr. Irani refused to go with them since he had not received an advance notice for an interrogation. He wrote a letter to the prison’s vice-manager to explain his reason for refusing to attend the interrogation session. They accepted his reason at that point.”

This source added, “Prison guards came to him again and called him to go with them to the office of the prison’s vice-manager. He went with the guards and never returned to his cell. His family sought to know his location and realized that prison authorities had not even taken him to Mr. Mohammad-Yari, the person who had first called him for interrogation. There have been no updates with regards to his health or location.”
