Millions of Egyptians Stage Protests Calling for Departure of Islamist President

In the largest demonstration since the 2011 uprising, a massive number of Egyptians flooded the streets of Cairo and surrounding cities yesterday to demand the fall of their President Mohammed Morsi. While the bloodbath many assumed would come of yesterday’s protest was avoided, “Egypt has never been so divided and the warnings of a civil war still loom large.” The protestors came from all social classes and were calling for his ouster because of a pattern that promotes his Islamist agenda over the good of the people, producing sectarian violence, human rights abuse, and economic collapse.
