Iran: Two Azeri-speaking Christians released from Prison

“Two Azeri converts from Islam, who were arrested by security officers of Islamic Republic of Iran on charges of Christian activities, were released temporarily on a $ 40,000 bail after appearing before two separate court hearings,” Mohabat News reports.
9/12/2011 Iran (Mohabat News) – Two Azeri converts from Islam, who were arrested by security officers of Islamic Republic of Iran on charges of Christian activities, were released temporarily on a 40,000$ bail after appearing before two separate court hearings.
According to Christian News agency “Mohabat News”, two Azeri Christian residences of the city of Tabriz by the names of “Vahid Roofegar” and “Reza Kahnamooee” who had been arrested on July 15, 2011, were temporarily released on bail on august 21 after enduring nearly two month of imprisonment.
The city of Tabriz, is situated in the north-west of Iran, 624 kms away from the Capital Tehran
During their detention, Reza and Vahid received two summonses to appear before the court. The first trial accused them of “apostasy “, but later they dropped this charge. Then the authorities announced their charges as “propagating anti-government ideas against the regime and threatening the national security “. But the judge ordered to release them on a bail of 20,000 $ for each one of them, i.e. a sum of 40,000 $.
Two months ago, these two Christians men were identified and chased by security forces while they were riding on a motorcycle in the city of the “Kalibar “(Northeast of Eastern Azerbaijan province). Once they noticed that the police was chasing them, they tried to escape. But they went off-road, lost their control over the motorcycle and landed in the dirt.
“These two young men were wounded due to the accident and then the police arrested and beat them and finally transferred them to a jail in the city of Kalibar. Even though Reza’s leg was badly hurt, the officers didn’t care about his injuries and didn’t provide any medical care eye-witnesses told Mohabat News.
